A New Season!
A very wise man once said, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven...A time to plant and a time to harvest” (King Solomon in Ecc. 3) For SouthDown Farm we are entering a new season, the time of planting and the harvest season is coming soon along with a new way of selling our farm fresh produce to the customers we love and serve!
SouthDown Farm is beginning a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm share program where those who sign up will purchase a weekly portion of locally grown produce. In order to have plenty of produce and variety SouthDown Farm is partnering with an amazing grower and friend, Jessica Bier of Stillhouse Branch Farm. Both of us are committed to growing using organic practices, though we are not organically certified.
By signing up for a CSA share, you are supporting local agriculture businesses committed to sustainable agriculture practices. We will have a small share (designed for one - two person households) and large share (designed for a family of four) available. We are currently focusing our deliveries to customers in Letcher County however, we may consider other locations if enough of a customer base could be found to make deliveries possible. We hope to have other on the farm purchase opportunities available to supplement your CSA share. SouthDown CSA participants will also have first dibs on placing orders for special SouthDown Bakery offers where we use ingredients we grow to make delicious baked goods.
Produce we are planing to have available in the SouthDown CSA share this year...Garlic (Garlic Scapes), Broccoli, Cabbage, Carrots, Shiitake Mushrooms, Mustard Greens, Cut Short Beans, Purple Queen Beans, Okra, Summer Squash, Cucumbers, Kale, Many Varieties of Lettuce, Potatoes (Yukon Gold, Red Pontiacs) herbs, Many varieties of amazing Peppers, Beets, and Heirloom Tomatoes.
So there is a time to plant, a time to harvest and a time to support your local farmer! We are inviting you to consider supporting local agriculture this summer! If you are interested in learning more about the SouthDown CSA opportunity click the link below!
